A Selection from the Smith Callaway Banks Collection of Folk Art from the Collection of the Betty Foy Sanders Art Department
Smith Callaway Banks avidly collected folk and visionary art from artists throughout the southeast. Folk Art is produced by academically untrained artists; many believe folk art is the only true “American” art outside of Native American traditions. Callaway Banks donated his entire collection to the Betty Foy Sanders Department of Art at Georgia Southern University before his death in 2013. The exhibition will be a curated selection from his collection. Thanks to Jason Hoelscher, Director of the Betty Foy Sanders Art Museum for his generous assistance and to Philadelphia Brewer, Curatorial Intern (GSU, class of 2018) for research, design and installation of the exhibition.
